On Fire?
February 13th, 2008 | by Sean |Someone at work today accused me (j’accuse!) of getting fired up about a particular subject (you might say, weighing in with excessive exuberance) and then doing nothing about it.
At the time, I thought it was a fairly accurate statement. I do tend to get irritated and energized about things that bother me; but the open question is - do I just let them slide? The more I thought about it, the less convinced I was.
Excepting today’s fiery outburst (which I did what I could to effect change), I thought about other things that bother me. Some things that I feel I can’t change, I could conceivably let drop without further word. What about things I can change?
I got directly involved in the operation of EsperNet. I felt the network started to stagnate and could use some new energy. With the help of a lot of other folks on the network, I think the tide is starting to turn towards real forward momentum. Check.
I sent a detailed financial breakdown of the true cost of vision coverage versus the reimbursement schedule of our (horrible) vision insurer to our VP of HR. I got him to commit to look into alternatives, especially for satellite offices that have no participating providers with that company. Check.
I’m dissatisfied with the current administration. I went to caucus for Barack Obama and was elected a delegate to the county convention. Check.
Since hindsight seems to be simultaneously 20/20 and myopic, I’m wondering what other things I may have let drop. I can think of one (a major factor in my move to Colorado) but that falls more into the “I tried” category (I think).
Can you think of anything?

As a human being with opinions you are entitled to a rant or two. You may even fly off the handle about the topic now and then, but you are not what I’d call clinical complainers. There are a lot of those and once in a while you may get lumped into that group. The important thing to remember is that when other people stood by like sheep, you voiced your opinions. Cheers!
