Mini
August 15th, 2007 | by Sean |I went out and bought a new Mac Mini tonight. I picked up the $599 model (1.83GHz Core 2 Duo, 1GB RAM) from the Apple Store at Fashion Fair Mall.
So far: I love it.
It is running circles around my aged TiBook 800 and is a joy to use. This is in contrast to my TiBook which struggled to power my 20″ Cinema display; it really slogged. Having a modern Mac also fills the gaping void left by my former MacBook Pro, which I miss.
I don’t get the $799 model, though. For $300 more, you get a 20″ display, better graphics, a bigger drive, and a keyboard and mouse. Why not just shell out the extra $300 and get a full-fledged machine?

My mac mini is a 1.66 GHz Core Duo (not Core 2) with 512 MB DD2 RAM. I still believe it is darn fast. It actually has the same specs as my laptop but with less ram.
