Someone is a Moron
February 15th, 2007 | by Sean |Jack McCallum thinks that Tim Hardaway is a moron.
I don’t disagree.
The gawking spectator in me couldn’t help but read the train wreck in the comments — things like “speech is free!” and “[Hardaway] is no better than a nazi.” Crazy stuff.
Some background for those not hip to the turbulence in the NBA: Tim Hardaway, former star, railed against gays in the NBA and sports in general. This was in response to John Amaechi (former NBA player) coming out of the closet in his recent literary release. Hardaway’s comments were filled with anti-gay sentiment and hateful remarks that set many, including myself, on edge.
Now, what Hardaway said is not what I’m writing about. I am writing to defend Jack McCallum. Namely, the “free speech” and “who cares” comments in the catastrophe of ignorance written about his piece. My cold-water reminder: you can say whatever you want without government interference, but that does not mean you’re free from the consequences. You’re responsible for what you say and should be prepared for what people might say about you for saying it.
Oh, and as much as we might think so these days, the media is not the government — and Tim Hardaway is a moron.
