A Thought on Foreign Oil
June 29th, 2006 | by Sean |I believe energy policy in this country needs to change. I believe government at every level from Federal down to the local municipalities should be pushing and promoting development of cleaner energies.
I will do my part, and this is how:
- At the polls; I will give significant weight to candidates running for office with energy plans that focus on encouraging new technology. Opening ANWR for oil exploration is a bandaid to excuse delayed progress on real improvement.
- In my regular energy consumption; conservation is key. I have set my thermostat set at or above 26.7C (80F) at all times. My computers, except my server, are set to “sleep” after a short period of inactivity.
- Reduce my oil dependence; by riding my bike to work when feasible and opting to use more fuel efficient vehicles. Sarah and I opted to use her car to do an errand in San Luis Obispo, 150 miles away. We achieved 38MPG (versus ~23MPG in my car) saving us 5 to 7 gallons of gas roundtrip.
We need to move this country forward on energy independence. This should be our nation’s focus.
What will you do?
