A Word about Comments
September 12th, 2004 | by Sean |Ok, as many have noted over on Myles’ blog, I should turn comments back on.
[bitching continued below...]
Some even think it’s appropriate to communicate directly to me through someone else’s idea. For those guilty, I am possessed of a regularly-checked email box. You can get to me directly that way.
Comments on this site have been disabled rather permanently, as Erick discovered. Guess I forgot about the rather extreme measures I went to (
chmod 0 mt-comments.cgi
)…
As I have said many times before, commentability on this site has been a receptacle for spam. Marcus, Myles, and all those have accurately pointed out that I do have the ability to censor, modify, and delete comments at will. Although, each of those efforts takes *time* – time I am unwilling to spend on something of this nature. Not to sound overly arrogant (since I think I’ve been enough already in this entry), I have better things to do with my time. For God-sakes people, I develop web applications at work day in and day out. The last thing I want to do is work on this.
Eventually, I will upgrade or change publishing systems. At that point, I will select a product where I can control comments before they’re posted. Ideally, I could provide some sort of authentication and authorization for comments prior to posting.
