When life sends you lemons…
December 13th, 2003 | by Sean |Slice them into an ice cold glass of Dr. Pepper.
My mom (Hi Mom!) sent me some (more) lemons the other day (I just picked them up today at the post office)… and let me tell you, her tree at our house in Carmichael does wonders. That thing puts out the nicest looking lemons on this side of the world. These things are veritable orbs of gold.
And they go great in small slices in water, various forms of alcohol (so I’m told…), coke, and now – for a limited time only – Dr. Pepper.

My job is winding down. I have only a few more weeks at the lab, then I slip back into the daily grind at Cal Poly. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing. I’ve learned a lot at the lab in terms of real world programming, how to handle myself in an organization, and even learned some new technical skills. In all those senses, this experience has been a success.
I also learned how hard it really is to “live on your own.” I’ve been footing my entire bill these last 6 months, free of my parent’s checkbook. In that time, I’ve made a lot of close calls as far as money goes. I’ve overextended myself on more than one occasion and ran up my credit card (now paid off, yay!) almost to the max. I’ve learned a lot of good financial lessons this time and I really think that will do me the most good in the long run.
There has been some talk about maintaining my employment when I return to school. I know I’ve mentioned it to a few of my friends and I’ve been actively pursuing it with my managers. The outlook isn’t so good due to various things out of my (and our) control. My managers have indicated a desire to bring me back later, and for the record, I’d love to return
I think I can do good in that group.

My roommate just bought a new PC. I seriously hope he skips the Windows and goes straight for Linux. I think he’d even do OK with Fedora or even RHEL WS Educational. Congrats Myles.
