Lets Go!
April 5th, 2003 | by Sean |Welcome to Spring quarter 2003. Good fun, good fun.
I started something new for me – exercise & fitness. After a particularly lethargic finale to Winter quarter, I decided that I needed to get out there and do stuff good for me. That means biking (with my shiny new bike), racquetball (with Joe), and DDR (also with Joe) on a regular basis. This isn’t a lose-weight thing per se (although I could stand to drop a few pounds) but rather to build up my stamina and energy. I don’t want to be a total veggie anymore.
Let’s talk about the bike here for a sec or two. I purchased a Specialized Hotrock, which is basically the low-end entry-level model. I picked it up for $199 (-$100 off retail). With accessories (light/lock/waterbottle) and tax, the total was $280. Getting home from school takes literally no time. I’m talking <5 minutes from practically anywhere on campus – with low traffic that is.
305 is gonna be great again (for those that don’t remember, my transcript reflects a ‘W’ for CPE 305 in Winter 2002). This time I expect to complete it. Tragic circumstances be damned.
I heard a disturbing rumor last night that 109 has been dropped from the CSc catalog for next year. This is totally unsubstantiated and I haven’t confirmed it myself (although I do plan to inquire a bit). The reason I heard for the drop seems too bogus – so I won’t post it (sorry). Note that this is a RUMOR.
I think I’m at a loss for material here. All I have to say is that Tsugaru rocks.
Update @ 22:17
CPE 109 appears on the 2003-2005 catalog. Hmm.

I heard the same thing. The reason I heard, and I quote “there’s too big a disparity between the 103 and 109 students”.
We’ll see. If they drop it, there will be pleanty of people going to the department office to make heads roll.

Oh, and just because it’s on the catalog, doesn’t mean it’s being offered. The catalogs were done last year, while you were taking 109, I think. The choice to stop offering it seems to be more recent.

The catalogs were still in committee until at least Fall 2002. I know they were still making final revisions. (If you remember, Fall 2001 was the first year of the 2001-2003 – making it rough-going to finish off a new catalog
However, the CSc department s just inviting programmatic mediocrity by lowering the bar this way. The disparity is indicative of the failure of the department to educate the 101-103 students. What really gets me is that this might take away the 1-quarter core for new students with prior background.

Well, I’m speaking from when *I* worked on the catalog (one of the many things I did while working in the Dean’s office). I don’t know what happened with getting it back and making changes, but I know we had at least a template for it early last year.
And again, there are a LOT of courses not offered in the catalog. Look at CSC 142. I personally hope they keep the class, and if I get the chance this quarter, might just go to the deparment office and find out if there’s truth to the rumor. This sucks, especially since they’re forcing Clint into fulltime anyway.
