BrewMaster!
December 29th, 2002 | by Sean |I made more coffee yesterday then I ever have in my life. Non-stop grinding, filling, brewing, pouring, drinking, mmm… I love coffee.
We had the annual Christmas dinner (a bit belated, but that’s ok) last night at my place (unusual, but again, that’s ok). We had some of our closest relatives over to dinner, so don’t think this was some huge family gathering. As the people who’ve been to my house can tell you, there really isn’t room for more than 10-12 people comfortably.
So, my parents made an awesome dinner replete with hors d’oeuvres and desert. Think prime rib, spinach dip, bread pudding, scallops, etc. It was delicious. Hmmm… prime rib.
Oh wait. I started talking about coffee.
Ok, so I made a ton of coffee. Did you know that a good balance of grounds to water (filtered water, of course) is roughly a pinch more than 2 tablespoons to every 6 ounces of water? The resulting coffee is potent (to say the least) but the flavor extraction of the beans didn’t exceed into the bitter area. Of course, experiment with this at your leisure. Don’t ever make coffee twice on the same grounds. That’s gross.
I also found that a few shreds of orange zest dropped into the coffee carafe imparts a very fruity, zesty flavor into the coffee. Try it sometime… don’t go overboard, a 2 or 3 small strips of zest is more than enough. Trust me on that one.
For reference, I did the orange experiment on some fresh French Roast beans I picked up at a local (non-chain store) coffee house. Grind to medium, don’t make it too fine (or too coarse).
Lezzsee… I started reading The Fellowship of the Ring, and if I’m not mistaken, the movie is very much different than the story. I don’t know what it is, but I really haven’t gotten into the story (i’m slightly over 100 pages in)… but I’ll give it another hundred pages or so and see if it hooks me. It might be the movie that’s ruining the reading experience… (the style of writing also takes a bit to get used to!)
I finished The Belgariad, The Mallorean, Belgarath the Sorcerer, and Polgara the Sorceress recently. Wow. This time around the story totally came alive in front of me, more so than any other time. It was rather delightful. I highly recommend reading these books…
I go back to SLO on the 2nd, I think. Yay. I need some time to buy food, clear out my backpack, clean up some papers, etc. A whole new quarter is coming. And on that note, cheers until next time.

Yea… I started reading the book too… the begining is NOTHING like the movie, but it’s starting to get back on track. It’s a boring read so far though… I hope it picks up. So much effort to get past the first chapters. The whole thing is “The hobbits ate, then sang, then ate some more”
Man, do I hate hobbits all ready. And I’m only 150 pages into it or so… but those were a LONG 150 pages.

The book takes a little starting but once you get to the end of the first book you’re hooked through the other two. The coffee sounds wonderful you’ll have to enlighten me upon arrival back to the BDSM Lounge.:)
